This book by, Linden Wolfe, at first glance appears to be a normal treatise on the Sermon on The Mount by Jesus of Nazareth from the bible. But, this book in reality is so much more. Woven in the fabric of the theology of his writing is a deep understanding of the spiritual meaning of the words of Jesus which can only come from a relationship with the Spirit and a deep commitment to living these words.
Additionally I found an understanding of our societies fall into spiritual decay and the deep need for the understanding of this spiritual way of life. He points to this, with his own personal experiences the transformation which comes from being "born again" and setting aside what the wisdom of this world teaches. He shows us how the ways of man are foolishness and death and can only lead to suffering. The simple act of following the words of Jesus as presented 1982 years ago brings us new life, new power, new wisdom and most importantly an infinite power in the way of Love.
He shows us how Jesus tried to help us, even today, recognize true power, true wisdom and true strength. He explains how meekness is not what most Christians believe. It is not weakness but but ultimate power of God, which has completely surrendered itself to the will of his Spirit. With this human emptiness filled will ultimate power, and when that power controlled by ultimate infinite intelligence, the possibilities for transformation in this world are beyond our comprehension.
And this is the point Jesus and Linden make over and over in all of his chapters, in every way serve the Lord and everything will be made new.
This book is 29 chapters of new insights into the meaning of the Sermon for today. If you are a Christian or are considering the faith of your youth or even just wondering what this Jesus thing is all about you will find no better way of seeking out this Jesus than prayerfully reading "Captivated by the King and The Kingdom."
My own person experience was simple, when I picked up the book, after the first paragraph I did not put it down until I had read every word. I was drawn into the wisdom, metaphor and personal experience of the way of Jesus. My mind made so many new connections it took me a while to digest what I had experienced.
